Gallery | Cyprus Cinema Series: PAUSE

PRESS RELEASE

On Sunday 29th of September, at a crowded Hellenic Centre, Cypriot director Tonia Mishiali presented her award-winning feature film Pause. The event was the third instalment of the Cyprus Cinema Series programme, organised by the Cyprus High Commission – Cultural Section and sponsored by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus.

The screening opened with a welcoming note by the Cultural Counsellor at the Cyprus High Commission, Dr Marios Psaras, who welcomed the director to London and introduced the film to the audience. The screening followed a Q&A with the international audience of academics, film critics, filmgoers as well as members of the Cypriot and Greek communities of London, who attended the event.

At the Q&A, Tonia Mishiali engaged in a productive dialogue with the audience around issues of femininity, patriarchy, domestic violence, as well as questions around reception, cinematic representation and production in Cyprus.
