Presented on July 18, 2025, at Theatro Technis as part of Cyprus Week
On a warm July evening in Camden, five chairs stood in a row. Five voices echoed stories from Cyprus that were tender, fierce, funny, and unforgettably human. An Album of Stories by Antonis Georgiou — adapted for the stage by Marina Vrondi and Valentinos Kokkinos, and directed by Marios Theocharous — unfolded like the pages of an old photo album: creased with memory, alive with breath.
Performed with heart and depth by Lucy Christofi, Elena Hadjiafxendi, Nicole Christophi, Alexandros Fragkos, and Kostas Tekkis, the stories reminded us that “η ζωή μας… μήπως δεν είναι άλλο από ένα τέτοιο κουβάρι ιστορίες;” — that life, after all, may be nothing more than a tangled skein of stories. As the characters shifted and wove through decades and generations, places and feelings, their words took root in the hearts of those in the room.
For our diaspora — for those who have left and those who remember — this reading was a gift. Stories once whispered in kitchens, jotted in notebooks, or lived in silence, were spoken aloud. And as they were heard, they became a part of us all. Stories to carry, to remember, to pass on — if they were not already ours to begin with.
With gratitude to Theatro Technis for hosting this deeply moving event, and to the Deputy Ministry of Culture for their continued support of Cypriot voices on international stages.
