PRESS RELEASE

George Koumouros’s contemporary art exhibition “Portrait Landscapes” opened last Thursday 14th of March 2019 at the exhibition halls of the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in London. The exhibition, which is organised by the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission and sponsored by the Cultural Services of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture, is curated by Dr Megakles Rogakos.

The exhibition was inaugurated by His Excellency the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Euripides L. Evriviades, who welcomed an international audience of art critics and enthusiasts, including prominent politicians, academics and artists. In his speech, Dr Rogakos talked about the merits of Koumouros’s painting, the traditions that inform it and the unique place it occupies in the contemporary art world. Mr Koumouros also addressed the audience, revisiting impactful moments in his life, especially his encounters with Michelangelo’s masterpieces that greatly inspired his love for the art, despite not necessarily his own paintings.

An interesting amalgam of surrealism and expressionism, George Koumouros’s evocative “Portrait Landscapes” will be open to the public Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, at the exhibition halls of the Cyprus High Commission, until the 5th of April.
