We regret to inform our audiences that the exhibition “George Pol. Georghiou – Timeless Cyprus”, which was scheduled to take place at The Hellenic Centre in London from 13–29 March 2026, has been postponed.
In light of the current situation concerning Cyprus and out of an abundance of caution regarding the transportation and security of the artworks and the organisation of the exhibition, the organisers have taken the difficult decision to move the exhibition to a later date.
The exhibition is presented by the A. G. Leventis Gallery as part of the cultural programme marking Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January–June 2026). The London presentation is organised with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in the United Kingdom, in collaboration with The Hellenic Centre.
The exhibition honours the legacy of George Polyviou Georghiou, one of the most important first-generation Cypriot artists. Through allegorical compositions, powerful symbolic imagery and depictions of Cypriot life, Georghiou created a visual language deeply intertwined with the island’s cultural and historical identity. Many of the works presented in the exhibition had remained for decades in the artist’s hometown of Famagusta and have recently been recovered and returned through the work of the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
Parallel Programme
Due to the postponement of the exhibition, the lecture by Dr Yiannis Toumazis, originally scheduled for 13 March, will also be postponed and will take place at a later date to be announced.
All day visits, curated tours, family workshops, and public programmes associated with the exhibition at The Hellenic Centre will therefore be rescheduled once the new exhibition dates are confirmed.
However, the Creative Pathways Q&A with Dr Marios Papadopoulos, Artistic Director of the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, will still take place as scheduled, but in a new location:
Cyprus House
13 St James’s Square
London SW1Y 4LB
Tuesday, 24 March 2026
6:30pm
Educational workshops that had been planned for Greek community schools in connection with the exhibition will also proceed as planned, but will be delivered directly at the participating schools.
New Dates
The exhibition itself is not cancelled, and the organisers are currently working closely together to confirm new dates later in the year.
Further updates will be announced through our website and social media channels as soon as the revised schedule is confirmed.
We thank audiences, partners and supporters for their understanding and continued interest in this important presentation of Cypriot art.
