2026 marks an important milestone for the Greek Archaeological Committee UK (GACUK): the 40th anniversary of its founding.

To celebrate 40 Years of Academic Excellence, GACUK marks this significant occasion with a special anniversary event, kindly hosted at Cyprus House, London.

The event celebrates four decades of academic excellence and the impact of the Greek Archaeological Committee UK (GACUK), highlighting its vital role in promoting Hellenic cultural heritage through scholarship, research and international collaboration.

By showcasing GACUK's long-standing support of outstanding young scholars, the event underscores how its scholarship programme serves as a powerful form of cultural diplomacy, strengthening ties between Greece, Cyprus and the United Kingdom, nurturing high-calibre scholars, and fostering mutual understanding between the three countries. Aimed at audiences both familiar and unfamiliar with GACUK's work, the event also invites prospective donors to engage with a mission that delivers lasting academic, cultural and societal benefits for Greece, Cyprus, the United Kingdom and the wider international academic community.

GACUK was established to support postgraduate studies in Hellenic archaeology in the United Kingdom by awarding scholarships to Greek and Cypriot graduate students of limited financial means. Since its establishment, GACUK has awarded scholarships to more than 80 graduate archaeologists, enabling a new generation of scholars to pursue advanced research and go on to distinguished careers.

The programme includes a PowerPoint presentation by Professor Emerita Maria Iacovou (University of Cyprus), as well as addresses by GACUK Patrons and supervisors of the Committee's scholars.

The evening will bring together distinguished academics, Patrons, friends, supporters and scholars to reflect on the impact of the past four decades and to look ahead to the future by reaffirming a shared commitment to supporting the next generation of promising young archaeologists and promoting Hellenic cultural heritage.
