Moments from 24 March & What Comes Next
On 24 March, something really special happened at Cyprus House.
Our artist-led curated tour of THERE IS AN ISLAND III brought together members of the Cypriot diaspora, students from Royal Holloway, and friends of Cyprus for an evening that felt open, honest and unexpectedly emotional.
Many of the 22 artists spoke about their work in their own words — not just explaining, but sharing. Stories of memory, identity, home and distance began to connect across the room. Artists found links between their practices, and audiences responded with curiosity, warmth and reflection.
It stopped feeling like a tour quite quickly. It became a conversation.
In that moment, the exhibition did exactly what it set out to do — it created bridges. Between people. Between experiences. Between Cyprus and the communities that carry it with them.
And we are continuing.
On 26 April, we welcome Alexis Andreou for a Documentary Photography and Visual Storytelling event. Alexis will open up his practice and explore how images hold memory, how photography can document not just places but emotions, and how storytelling through images allows us to engage more deeply with Cyprus and its layered realities.
On 13 May, we open two very different but beautifully connected projects.
Maria Christodoulou’s Voices of Home invites audiences into the atmosphere of a Cypriot household. Through sound, voices and everyday moments, it becomes an intimate, living space — one that reminds us how culture is carried quietly through daily life, often by women, across generations and across borders.
Alongside it, Antonis Sideras’s Viper in My Grave offers something raw, personal and powerful. Through poetry, drawing and performance, Antonis shares a deeply honest exploration of identity, trauma and growing up between worlds — shaped by Cyprus, but also by everything that challenges it.
Together, these events continue to shape THERE IS AN ISLAND III into something alive — not just an exhibition, but a space where people meet, listen, and connect.
