Public Lecture at The Hellenic Centre, 16-18 Paddington Street, London W1U 5AS
During the eighteenth, and most of the nineteenth century, the only testimonies we have of how Cyprus looked like are the works of artists who travelled to the island. Dr Rita Severis, Executive Director of Costas & Rita Severis Foundation which since 2014 hosts the Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR), delivers a lecture on how these art works unfold a panorama of the island which includes the monuments, landscape, flora, architecture and everyday life of the people. While examining their art and comparing views out of three centuries, one can also follow the developments that took place and the changes that occurred. These paintings speak of the history of Cyprus and its people and remain a strong testimony of our cultural heritage.
