Following the wonderful response to Maria Christodoulou’s Voices of Home and the many requests from audiences wishing to experience the installation, Cyprus House is delighted to create additional opportunities for visitors to step into this intimate and moving work through two special Open Days.

As part of THERE IS AN ISLAND III, this year’s exhibition reflects on women and everyday life, exploring the often-unseen spaces where culture is preserved, carried, and transformed across generations. Through recordings of women and girls in their homes, Voices of Home: Women and Everyday Life in Cypriot Culture recreates the atmosphere of a traditional Cypriot household in the UK, inviting visitors into a living archive of memory and domestic life.
The installation surrounds audiences with voices, stories, rituals, and everyday moments that together form the fabric of cultural identity. By placing women’s experiences and perspectives at its centre, the project highlights the significance of domestic spaces as places where traditions survive and where communities continue to shape their sense of belonging.
For our diaspora especially, the work offers a powerful reflection on the ways identity travels across borders. It reminds us that culture is not preserved only through grand historical narratives, but through small everyday gestures — conversations around a table, family memories, recipes, habits, sounds, and voices that remain with us throughout our lives.
Join us for an immersive journey through memory, home, and the voices that continue to connect generations.
