On a memorable evening hosted in collaboration with GACUK, audiences were treated to an exceptionally insightful lecture by Dr Artemis Georgiou, a leading Cypriot scholar whose research sheds new light on Cyprus’s enduring role in the ancient world. With clarity, passion, and scholarly depth, Dr Georgiou explored how Cyprus has long stood at the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean — a bridge of cultures, a crossroad of civilisations, and a place where ideas, peoples and traditions have met, merged and thrived.

Her lecture highlighted not only the island’s archaeological richness but also its timeless relevance: the same networks of connectivity that shaped Cyprus in antiquity remain vital to how we understand cultural exchange today. Dr Georgiou’s ability to bring archaeology to life made the evening both deeply informative and genuinely inspiring, reaffirming the pride we all share in Cyprus’s contribution to world heritage.

We extend our warmest thanks to GACUK for organising this important event and for their constant dedication to cultivating a vibrant community of scholars, students, and friends of Hellenic culture in the UK. Their spirit of openness, hospitality and academic excellence was evident throughout the evening.

The Cyprus High Commission remains committed to supporting such initiatives, which celebrate our cultural identity while fostering understanding and dialogue. Highlights from the event can be found in our photo gallery, with more updates to follow across our social media channels.
