Cypriot Antiquities in the UK: Building Cultural Bridges
Monday, 7 December 2026 | 18:30
High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, 13 St James’s Square, London SW1Y 4LB
The Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission and the Hellenic Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London invite you to a special panel discussion exploring the place of Cypriot antiquities in UK collections and the cultural connections they continue to create.
The antiquities of Cyprus offer an extraordinary window into the island’s ancient history and its longstanding connections across the Mediterranean. Today, Cypriot objects held in museums and collections throughout the United Kingdom also provide an opportunity to introduce wider audiences to the richness and distinctiveness of Cyprus’s archaeological heritage.

Cypriot Antiquities in the UK: Building Cultural Bridges asks how these collections can strengthen the deep cultural relationship between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, connect diasporic communities with the island’s past, and encourage dialogue at a time when cultural heritage is increasingly drawn into wider political debates.
The discussion brings together:
Dr Vasiliki Kassianidou Former Deputy Minister of Culture, Republic of Cyprus
Dr Anna Reeve Institute of Classical Studies, London
Dr Anja Ulbrich A.G. Leventis Curator of the Cypriot Collection, Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford
Dr Eleni Zimi University of the Peloponnese, Kalamata
Chair
The panel discussion will run from 18:30 to 20:00, followed by a reception until approximately 20:30.
Doors open at 18:15.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance booking is essential.
