The Cyprus High Commission, Cyprus House, 13 St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LB

Join us for a compelling evening with Alexander Tofalides, the first-ever fencer to represent Cyprus at the Olympic Games, as part of our Creative Pathways series celebrating Cypriots excelling across disciplines in the UK.

In this live Q&A, Alexander will reflect on his extraordinary 20-year journey to the Olympic stage — from his beginnings in London’s fencing circles, through years of setbacks and reinvention, to achieving his dream of competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The discussion will explore his approach to resilience, mental performance under pressure, and the power of identity, preparation, and inner narrative in overcoming adversity.

Drawing on insights from his career as both an athlete and a public speaker, Alexander will speak candidly about the personal and professional choices that shaped his path — including the decision to represent Cyprus, the psychological tools that helped him through loss and failure, and his ongoing preparations for Los Angeles 2028.

Alexander Tofalides regularly delivers talks and workshops across the UK and internationally in English, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, and French. His story is one of perseverance, discipline, and determination — and this conversation offers a unique window into the mindset of someone who has learned to perform when it truly matters.

This event is organised by the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission in the UK in collaboration with NEPOMAK UK.

A drinks reception will follow the discussion.
