On Wednesday, June 25th, the Cyprus High Commission in London opened its doors to a full house for an unforgettable evening of poetic collaboration and creative resonance. As part of the acclaimed European Poetry Festival, curated by Steven J. Fowler, the event celebrated the richness and diversity of contemporary poetry through sixteen extraordinary voices, brought together in a spirit of dialogue, reflection, and performance.
The evening featured the powerful and evocative work of:
Avgi Lilli & Calliope
MichailStathis Dimitriadis & Panos Ghikas
Nora Nadjarian & Laura Davis
Tuğçe Tekhanlı & Maria Christodoulou
Alev Adil & Martin Wakefield
Katerina Koulouri & Hanna Komar
Theodoros Chiotis & Chrissy Williams
Antonia Taylor & L Kiew
Each pair presented brand-new poetic works created especially for the night — crossing languages, styles, and geographies, mirroring Cyprus’s unique place at the heart of the Mediterranean and at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
We thank Steven J. Fowler for his vision and artistic generosity, and the European Poetry Festival for offering a platform that affirms not just the beauty of poetry, but also its enduring relevance in shaping empathy, solidarity, and European cultural values.
Poetry, after all, speaks across borders — and on this night, voices from Cyprus and beyond reminded us that words remain our most intimate and powerful tool of connection.
The European Poetry Festival 2025 continues until July 6th across venues in London. We warmly encourage all literature lovers to explore the rest of this remarkable festival:
Let poetry surprise you. Let it move you. Let it speak for Europe.
