We are delighted to announce that the UK CYPRUS FILM FESTIVAL 2025 will open with the critically acclaimed feature film Embryo Larva Butterfly, written and directed by Kyros Papavassiliou. This special screening will take place at Cyprus House, London, on Monday 12 May 2025, marking the official launch of this year’s festival.
The evening begins at 6:00 PM, as doors open with a screening of a selection of short films from The Myths of Cyprus, directed by Mark Kassinos and produced by the Press and Information Office of Cyprus. These short films, inspired by the island’s rich mythology and storytelling tradition, offer audiences an evocative glimpse into the legends and cultural heritage of Cyprus.
At 7:00 PM, we will present Embryo Larva Butterfly (2023), a thought-provoking, metaphysical love story that explores the fragile boundaries between time, memory, and identity. Set in a world where time shifts unpredictably, the film follows a couple as their relationship is tested by changing memories of the past, present, and future. Premiering at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2023, the film has since captivated audiences at major festivals worldwide.
The evening will conclude with a Q&A session with director Kyros Papavassiliou at 8:35 PM, offering audiences the opportunity to hear firsthand about the film’s creative journey, its surreal narrative world, and the director’s reflections on time, love, and identity.
Embryo Larva Butterfly is produced by AMP Filmworks (Cyprus) in co-production with Graal (Greece), with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, the Greek Film Centre, ERT, and Creative Europe.
Admission is free, but booking is essential. We warmly invite you to join us for this opening event and celebrate contemporary Cypriot cinema in London.
