12–29 March 2026, The Hellenic Centre, London
As part of the cultural celebrations marking Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January–June 2026), the A. G. Leventis Gallery proudly brings to London the landmark exhibition George Pol. Georghiou – Timeless Cyprus. Following its acclaimed premiere in Nicosia in 2022, this will be the first time the exhibition travels internationally, offering UK audiences a rare encounter with the work of one of Cyprus’s most beloved artists.
Georghiou’s paintings are windows into the soul of the island. With deep sensitivity, he captured its landscapes, its rituals, its people, and its collective memory. Many of the works presented—including a number that recently returned from Famagusta through the important efforts of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage—have become emblematic images of Cyprus’s modern history. Together, they form a visual narrative of a place shaped by beauty, resilience and time.
Visitors will discover monumental historical scenes, intimate rural moments and allegorical compositions filled with symbols that speak to Cyprus’s identity. Through these works, Georghiou’s lifelong love for his homeland becomes both visible and deeply felt.
Curated Tours & Public Programme
To help audiences engage more closely with the artist’s work and world, a rich programme of curated tours will run throughout the exhibition period. These tours—led by members of the curatorial and organisational team—will explore the historical background, artistic language and personal stories embedded in Georghiou’s paintings.
Families are warmly invited to join the creative workshops for children, offered on the first two weekends of the exhibition. On 28 March, the 11:00am session will take the form of an interactive family tour and hands-on workshop, bringing young visitors into direct creative dialogue with the artist’s themes.
Further details and the full tour schedule will be announced in early 2026.
An Exhibition Honouring Cyprus and Its Stories
Curated by Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, Katerina Stephanides and the late Eleni S. Nikita, Timeless Cyprus stands as a tribute not only to Georghiou’s extraordinary artistic contribution, but also to the island itself—its history, its people, and the stories that bind them together.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special celebration of Cypriot art and heritage in the heart of London.
