This past Sunday, Cyprus House welcomed audiences to a deeply engaging and thought-provoking Photography & Visual Storytelling Workshop led by documentary photographer Alexis Andreou, presented as part of THERE IS AN ISLAND III and the UK Cyprus Film Festival.
What emerged over the course of the session was more than a workshop. It became a shared space of reflection, exchange, and quiet transformation.
Through a combination of presentation and hands-on practice, participants explored the relationship between image and text, working with photographic material to construct sequences and narratives. As the session unfolded, the room gradually filled with fragments of personal stories, memories, and lived experiences, brought together through images, words, and collective attention.
In this process, individual perspectives began to resonate with one another. Themes of identity, belonging, displacement, and memory surfaced organically, revealing how visual storytelling can open pathways not only for artistic expression, but also for connection.
The workshop highlighted the capacity of creative practice to function as a form of reflection and, in many ways, healing. By sharing and shaping their own material, participants contributed to a collective narrative that extended beyond the individual, creating a sense of community within the space.
We extend our warmest thanks to Alexis Andreou for leading the workshop with such sensitivity and insight, and to all participants for their openness, generosity, and willingness to engage in this shared creative process.
This event formed part of the wider programme of THERE IS AN ISLAND III, continuing its exploration of Cyprus as a space of memory, storytelling, and lived experience across artistic forms.
